Switching from winter to spring switches emotions. Feeling down in winter but more excited to see spring and what lovely things it has to offer. I look around to see what spring has to offer for me this morning and as I walk a girl turns to me and says “I love that shirt!” I replied, “Thank you, I love your hair.”
She walks away with a flower in hand, not a care for the seasons but kindness is part of her everyday world. I walk away with a smile on my face, I pick a flower to try and find her joy in spring. Another girl walks by, no flower in hand, no smile but no frown, she’s just feeling down. I turned to her smiling and said, “Your shoes compliment your outfit so well.” She looks up and shows a quick grin, replying “Oh wow, thank you.”
She walks away with more pep in her step, and I walk away feeling good and happy. I continue my walk of spring joy, when I pass the same unhappy girl she is now happier than before. She stood with another girl and said “Your eyes glow in the sun.” the girl replies “Thank you so much, how kind of you to say that.”
The two strangers walk their separate ways and I say quietly to myself, “Spring is just a season, but kindness is all year round, let us never forget what our words mean to others.”
