Weather of the Week
A bit of an above-average week in terms of temperatures this time of year, with highs in the upper 70s by the end of the week. It looks like a nice week, with no rain in the forecast other than some shower chances over the weekend. Enjoy the week as long-range models hint at a multitude of storm systems into mid-October.
What’s Going on in the Weather World?
Hurricane Helene has dissipated but its impacts are horrendous. In Florida, entire neighborhoods were washed away by storm surges or collapsed from the wind. In Tennessee and Western North Carolina, rain in 3 days dropped nearly 30” of rain, causing devastation not seen since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. While not as bad as Katrina, cities like Asheville, NC were 80% destroyed by flooding rains and overflowing from a nearby dam. Practically every road in western North Carolina is damaged or destroyed. “Helene caused the worst-case scenario to occur and all we can do is rebuild and pray,” said a city official from Asheville. And they are correct, all we can do in that situation is to progress forward and rebuild stronger than ever before. If you want to donate to hurricane relief, I recommend donating to the American Red Cross so that your donation will benefit a survivor in need.
