Weather of the Week
It’s been a cold start to January, as expected. High temperatures barely reached 30 degrees, with lows in the lower teens to single digits. It’s sunny and brisk. The weekend is the same but with temps in the mid-30s. We’re watching for a potential snowstorm, but currently, it looks like it’ll be out to sea and not a threat to Southern New England.
What’s Going on in the Weather World?
A major winter storm has struck the Midwest and mid-Atlantic regions, causing shutdowns of major interstate highways and closing down cities. Areas across the middle US saw ice up to two inches, causing almost half a million power outages and causing falling trees, which has unfortunately killed three people. Areas near Chapman, Kansas have seen 18-24” of snow, which shattered old snow records from the 1920s. The reason for this unprecedented snowstorm is the high-pressure blocking system positioned in the northeast, which pushes precipitation southwards.
