Most high school athletes play sports because they love them, and enjoy training, getting better, and succeeding in front of their friends and family. Fans weigh heavily on the effort level of players, and no one enjoys playing in front of empty bleachers. Fans create an atmosphere and intensity to the game, adding support and appreciation for their players. Along with adding to the game itself, fans uphold a sports image and how involved others want to be. Without fans in attendance, sports will lose popularity.
People of all ages come to Minnechuag to support family and friends while they play the sports they love. The fee of $5 is already turning people away at the door, and the refusal of cash at the entrance will only decrease the number of spectators. Modernization has caused most of the world to transition to the Internet, and it has done the same for sporting event tickets at Minnechaug Regional High School. Young kids who don’t have access to online money or banking, grandparents and elders who aren’t tech-savvy, and others who might only have cash on them are all faced with the problem of not being able to enter games.
There have been instances in which students have been denied entry into a game even though they have visible, physical money to pay towards entering the Minnechaug sporting event. This is what has caused me to address the problem, and after discussing it with others there seems to be one quick and simple fix. Cash becomes a payment option once again at school sporting events.
This conventional option would greatly increase the number of spectators at games. With the help of the student body, we could re-introduce cash as a payment option for sporting events at Minnechaug. Athletes will no longer worry about having enough outside support, and sports will remain popular within the community.
