The freshman class council hosted the first Shamrock Showdown fundraiser on March 7, 2025. With music, friends, and prizes, this fundraising event attracted many people to participate. The winning team, STUCO MVPS, took first place, defeating THE DODGE FATHERS. The tournament started at 2:45 and lasted about an hour.
The final game was a close one, resulting in the win coming down to the match-clock and how many players were left standing on each side. When the clock struck 0, the courts were flooded with excitement, and prizes were distributed. Sportsmanship and rules were enforced by freshman Jillian Rumplik.
Rumplik, the president of her class, played a crucial part in the success of this tournament. The Smoke Signal interviewed her to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the fundraiser came together.
How did the freshman make this event such a success?
“Over a few meetings, we brainstormed ideas that past events had, and thought the whole school could benefit from it. Instead of a normal fundraiser, it was more of an event that everyone could participate in without spending too much money.”
The freshmen class made this fundraiser inclusive for every student by making the fee to participate just $3.00 a person. How do you think the students benefited from this?
“I think the students had a lot of fun and a bunch of them had very positive feedback, we were even told we should bring this back next year.”
Do you have hopes to continue the Shamrock Showdown in the future?
“Yes, I do, I think it was very fun, and not too complicated to put together. I have hopes of continuing this in the future!”
