Weather for the Week
This week will start cooler, in the mid-50s but gradually warm into the low 80s for Halloween. The only rain chances are Tuesday night and Friday but are little at best. Elevated fire danger will continue through the week as a drought worsens the region. Make sure not to have any bonfires as if you lose control of it, fires can spread rapidly in low relative humidity settings. Brush fires have already begun in places like Berlin, CT, and Salem, MA, both with 100+ acres burned. Keep flammable objects away from leaves, grass, and houses. I highly discourage even using a grill at the moment.
What’s Going on in the Weather World?
As mentioned above, Berlin, CT, and Salem, MA are just two of many towns feeling the effects of the elevated fire danger across the northeastern US currently. Even if you use all fire precautions if you are for example camping, you should consider what happened in Berlin before you go. The Berlin Fire, aka the Hawthorne Fire, has grown to 125 acres on a mountain in Berlin, CT. This was decided to have been caused by a camper’s fire. The fire was put out, but the ashes reignited and the fire spread rapidly. I highly discourage anyone camping in these conditions and discourage using grills. We still don’t know what caused the Salem Fire, but regardless stay away from flora if using flames.
