On September 19 the Minnechaug varsity volleyball team had an unfortunate loss to Frontier Regional High School. The game was a close one, but in the end, Frontier won 3-1.
Frontier was off to a good start and won the first set. In the second set, the score was tied at 24 with Minnechaug serving. Anna O’Toole, Minnechaug’s middle hitter, served, which was then received by Frontier. The ball was then set by Cora Pace, Minnechaug’s setter, giving Nehir Elcin, Minnechaug’s outside hitter, the perfect opportunity for a kill. The hit was then blocked by Frontier and went directly out of bounds, giving Minnechaug this set’s game point. After a long rally and lots of back and forth, Frontier won the third set with a spike right into the net by Minnechaug. Although this game was a very close one, Frontier finally won the fourth set with an ace.
Even though this was a very unfortunate loss for the Minnechaug Falcons, the team continues to move forward and put this loss behind them.
“People who can handle tough coaching, not mean, but criticism and taking that criticism to improve,” said Minnechaug’s Head Coach, Coach Taylor, when asked what he looks for in his players. Also, When Claire Pouliot, a senior on the team was asked what her strategies were as a player she said “Don’t hold on to the mistakes that you make.”
Using constructive criticism and moving forward from their mistakes, are both important values to the team, many hope that Minnechaug’s varsity volleyball team will continue to progress and win throughout the rest of the season.
