Weather of the Week:
A somewhat normal few days before what I call the “Weekend Gauntlet”. Upper 30s to low 40s for the highs until Friday, near freezing highs then. Some snow showers may track in on Thursday morning but shouldn’t cause too many issues. Now to the gauntlet: A system is to approach the mid-Atlantic and northeast Saturday night going until Sunday night. As of writing, it appears that there is a 40% chance of plowable snowfall, with even a very low chance of a major snowstorm happening. As of right now, I estimate 3-6 inches of snow. Also keeping an eye on maybe some wind on this system, though I’m not expecting a blizzard.
Weather Story of the Week:
Happy New Year! We are only three days into 2024 and there has already been a lot of news. A 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck portions of western Japan, causing significant damage and small tsunamis. In addition, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake rocked portions of LA Monday morning. And Tuesday morning, two planes collided in Tokyo, unknown if caused by atmospheric conditions. Only five were killed, all from a Coast Guard plane. It crashed and set a commercial plane with nearly 400 passengers on board on fire, all of whom miraculously survived.
